Tour Description

This cycling tour is specifically designed for those who want to travel light and not have to carry their backpacks around while exploring. This exclusive tour allows you to explore Sri Lanka with short but productive rides after setting up in a central location.

Your start-up point and first base will be in Sigiriya, where you will first climb the great rock fortress that was used by King Kashyapa to rule the land. Witness one of the world’s last classic examples of ancient urban planning while catching a glimpse at the beautiful frescoes that adorn these fortress walls.

Next, head to Polonnaruwa and cycle amongst the mysterious ruins of Sri Lanka’s second oldest kingdom. Learn about Sri Lanka’s rich and proud past and discover the country’s historical roots before heading to the island’s famous hills.

The hill capital of Kandy is your next destination. Boasting a lively and colourful culture of its own, Kandy is also historically as well as religiously important to Sri Lankans as it was the last kingdom of Sri Lanka and also serves as a refuge for relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth.

Cycle across beautiful landscapes and breathtaking scenery, with the magnificent Knuckles mountain range in the backdrop; head over to Nuwara Eliya, which is a doorway to a different era. This hillside retreat boasts large tea estates, colonial structures and a cool climate to complement the surroundings.

Explore the Horton Plains National Park both on the bike and on foot. Get close to the range of beasts and birds that reside in this heavenly park and learn about the animals you encounter.

You will then be able to take an extensive tour of Belihuloya, where you can interact and mingle with the friendly and welcoming locals. Experience the authentic traditional lifestyles of rural folk in Sri Lanka with this segment of the expedition and truly feel the benefits of exploring Sri Lanka on bike.

Next up is Udawalawe, which holds one of the country’s best national wildlife parks and sanctuaries. It boasts a very large population of wild elephants which means that it is the only place in the world where an elephant sighting is guaranteed on every visit. It is also home to a great list of resident and migratory birds as well as the elusive leopard.

Head over to your last base in Unawatuna, where you can enjoy the golden sandy beaches and explore the nearby attractions. Head over to Galle and visit the fort that was built by the Portuguese and later fortified extensively by the Dutch colonists. Head back to the warm beaches of Unawatuna to end your cycling adventure in style.

This tour is all about packing light and going on short excursions to gain the utmost out of a day of cycling. Visit some of the great tourist attractions in Sri Lanka and explore the island intimately without carrying around a heavy backpack.
