Full day ride from Kandy to its suburbs

Our guides will meet you at the clock tower in Kandy and after the initial briefing we will start our cycling journey. It is the perfect experience for those seeking a total experience, covering the historical and the traditional industrial landscape of Kandy and its outskirts.

Departing from the clock tower in the centre of Kandy, you reach the Gannoruwa Agro Farm which is spread over 80 hectares of land while you will also catch a glimpse of the local industries ranging from high-tech agriculture to spice gardens. It is a one-stop destination where you can learn about root and tuber crops, beekeeping, plant pathology, various types of gardens and much more.

Have a closer look to the making of fine-crafted goods at the handicraft centre at Dodamwala. Afterwards you’ll visit the historic “Natha” shrine, dedicated to a deity believed to be a guardian of Sri Lanka.

The next stop is the Dawson Tower in Kadugannawa town, a monument to the commanding engineer of Ceylon in the 1800s, Captain Dawson, who built the country’s first highway system.

Three lesser known 14th century temples in the Pilimathalawa area await you to be found in the Kandyan landscapes. The first is the Gadaladeniya Temple, second is the Embekka Devalaya, famous for its intricate wood carvings, and at last the Lankathilaka Temple. All with aesthetic, cultural and religious importance.

After that, a visit to a local home-based brass workshop if foreseen, where you can see how brassware is manufactured, as it has been for several centuries.

What can’t be missed in Sri Lanka’s hill country, is a stop at a Tea State, where you will be able to learn about the history of how Sri Lanka became famous for producing the best tea in the world.

Not to forget, a traditional Sri Lankan home-cooked lunch will be arranged at a local house during the day trip.
